DBS #50: Red Flag Fiction
Tuesday Aug 31, 2021
Tuesday Aug 31, 2021
"I'd rather read a book that I'm offended by than read one that I'm bored by."
We start the episode off by discussing our recent trip to Ann Arbor where we attended this year's Astronomicon. After that, we discuss red flag fiction, what that means, and what it means for content creators like writers.
At some point, we also dive into a conversation about the public school system, where we think it fails in regards to discussing racial issues, and why we think it's important NOT to ban classic fiction that has gross depictions of racism.

Tuesday Aug 24, 2021

We get a little weird during the opening as we're joined by Ashleigh Hatter, but then we get into a very interesting conversation about the work of Stephen King. We discuss a bit about the differences between his past work and current work, as well as his editing choices (or lack thereof) as of late.
Then we answer the big question: should Stephen King retire? Also, be sure to check out a bonus track after the outro music.

#85: Real Irish Fiction And Samurai Novels
Tuesday Aug 03, 2021
Tuesday Aug 03, 2021
We kick off the episode by discussing the Irish language and some real Irish fiction. We discuss the legendary Irish writer Máirtín Ó Cadhain and his most famous novel, "Cré na Cille" or "The Graveyard Clay" as it's known in English.
The focus of the episode, though, is on the ten best Samurai novels. We also talk a bit about classic samurai movies, some Japanese history, the Japanese language, and the most famous samurai Miyamoto Musashi.
Caleb ends the episode by going on an epic rant against ads. Specifically, a certain insurance company that constantly ruins his YouTube video binges.

Tuesday Jul 27, 2021
We start things off by discussing our lack of productivity. After that, we get into some raunchy Jane Austen talk. That's right! We discuss why guys should read what people often consider to be "lady books" and things get pretty wild in the studio.

#83: How To Write With Balls!
Tuesday Jul 13, 2021
Tuesday Jul 13, 2021
We start things off by talking about Amazon Kindle Vella and what that could mean for indie authors. Then we get into the meat of things as Caleb covers one of his more ridiculous articles.
Despite the title, there is a lot of great information on passive versus active voice, why you should mostly write in active voice, and instances where passive voice is actually the better option. We end the episode by discussing different writing style elements you can use to improve your story and better engage your readers.
