Well, we've done it, folks. We've reached the end of our Conan journey. In this final episode, we talk about the final two stories in The Coming of Conan The Cimmerian collection.
We start things off with the super racist "The Vale of Lost Women," and go over "The Devil in Iron." We end the episode by giving our ratings for the whole collection as well as Robert E. Howard's writing style.

In the second part of our discussion on great books written by black authors, we finish out the list we began in part one. We also talk more about the poetry of Langston Hughes, what books on this list we are most interested in reading, and what books we want to read in the near future.
Caleb also goes on a mini-rant about racism in boxing and what types of poetry he likes and despises.

BookCast #4: Conan The Cimmerian 9-11
Friday Feb 21, 2020
Friday Feb 21, 2020
In this rousing episode, we talk about the Conan stories "Xuthal of the Dusk," "The Pool of the Black One," and "Rogues in the House." We have a lot of fun talking about the wild Conan adventures here, as well as how weird it is reading adventure stories written in the 30s when racism and sexism were handled much differently than they are now.

Tuesday Feb 18, 2020
Tuesday Feb 18, 2020
Caleb is solo in this episode, but that's okay! It's a short one. He talks about his current struggles with writing output and when or how a writer knows when it's time to call it quits. There's some useful information in this one.

Friday Feb 14, 2020
Friday Feb 14, 2020
In part three of our Conan BookCast series, we discuss the stories “Queen of the Black Coast,” “Black Colossus,” and “Iron Shadows in the Moon.” We also go over the tired helpless damsel in distress trope that's so prevalent in some of these stories. We also break down some of the things we dislike about Robert E. Howard's writing style and overuse of specific descriptions.

#44: Talking About Black Excellence In Literature Part One
Tuesday Feb 11, 2020
Tuesday Feb 11, 2020
We start things off by discussing the Barnes and Noble diversity book cover controversy. Then we get lost talking about our favorite classic TV shows like The Jeffersons and All in the Family.
The actual episode begins somewhere around the 12-minute mark. We have a long conversation about the best black writers in history and their greatest works. And since things go a bit long, we decided to make this a two-parter!

BookCast #2: Conan The Cimmerian 4 And 5
Thursday Feb 06, 2020
Thursday Feb 06, 2020
We're going to Detroit this weekend! Which means we're dropping this episode on you a day early.
For our second episode of the DPW BookCast, we go over the Conan stories “The Tower of the Elephant” and “The Scarlet Citadel.” We start the episode with a rousing reading of the opening to Tower of the Elephant. Then we spend a good chunk of time going over the stories and talking a bunch of our usual nonsense. It's a good time!
By the way, make sure to stick around to the very end. We've included the blooper take of the opening reading.

There's a lot of nonsense in this episode but we come up with a few interesting topics. We discuss how winter has affected our writing, what strange, possibly murder inducing day jobs might contribute to writing success, and our plans once winter is over.

BookCast #1: Conan The Cimmerian 1-3
Tuesday Jan 28, 2020
Tuesday Jan 28, 2020
In our first ever DPW BookCast, we cover the first three stories of "The Coming of Conan the Cimmerian" collection written by Robert E. Howard. We start the episode off with a reading of the poem "Cimmeria" that kicks off the collection of stories.
After that, we talk a bit about the illustrations in the collection, the life and writing style of Robert E. Howard, and some of the overall things we enjoyed so far. Then we go into detail and discuss the three stories "The Phoenix on the Sword," "The Frost-Giant's Daughter," and "The God in the Bowl."
We end the episode with a discussion of where we feel Robert E. Howard's work and writing style falls among the great literary writers of the 19th and 20th centuries. We also go back into a familiar conversation on what makes something classic or fine literature and if the Conan stories should get such a grand distinction.
